But I am not crazy, mountain biking is an extreme sport!

Like a ski resort, a bikepark has trails graded from green to double black. And just like in winter, when you can ski or board, in summer, there are different disciplines: from Downhill MTB, which requires commitment, to E-biking, the gentlest form.

Like a ski resort, a bikepark has trails graded from green to double black. And just like in winter, when you can ski or board, in summer, there are different disciplines: from Downhill MTB, which requires commitment, to E-biking, the gentlest form.

1 – Downhill MTB (DH): 11 trails

In photos, it looks scary! With its banked turns and spectacular jumps, downhill MTB is a thrilling mountain sport for which you need commitment, technique and the right equipment: full-face helmet, protection and a full-suspension MTB optimised for the sport.

Luckily, this sport is not as difficult as it looks! For example, the Bike Slope, Bellevue and Blue Line trails are perfect for beginners. More daring riders will find what they’re looking for on the 4 red trails, 2 blacks and the double black…

  • Bike Slope: 5.5km with 550m of total descent. Access: from the top of Tougnète

  • Bellevue: 8.9km with 950m of total descent. Access: from mid-station of Pas du Lac gondola lift

  • Tougnète Rocket: 3.3km with 520 m of total descent. Access: from the top of Tougnète

  • 4X de la Chaudanne: 0.8km with 120 m of total descent. Especially created for the French Championships in 2011! Access: from Tougnète gondola lift.

2 - Enduro trails (E): 10 trails

Halfway between downhill MTB and cross-country, enduro is physically quite demanding. With its relatively long descents, this discipline is also more natural and wild in character as the trails are not specially equipped as they often are in DH...

  • La Forêt de l'Altiport: 7.6km with 195m of total ascent and 470m of total descent. Access from the Altiport car park.

  • Les Combes: 9km with 840m of total descent. Access from the top of Tougnète

  • Top down: 19.7km with 390m of total ascent and 2,470m of total descent. Access from the top of Pas du Lac

  • Mergollaz: 9.1km with 1,040m of total descent. Access from the top of Tougnète

3- Cross-country (XC) : 4 trails

The most common form of mountain biking and certainly the most accessible, cross-country can be enjoyed both at competition level (it’s the only Olympic MTB discipline) and at family level. In Méribel, you can learn, progress and experiment on trails ranging from a tour of a lake to the 2014 World Cup course!

  • Lac de Tuéda : 3.2km with 75m of total ascent. Access from Méribel Mottaret Tourist Office.

  • L'ours : 4.6km with 235m of total ascent. Access from Méribel Mottaret

  • Adret : 17.8km with 885m of total ascent. Access from la Chaudanne

  • World Cup : 4.6km with 200m of total ascent. Access from la Chaudanne

4- E-bikes (VAE): 3 circuits

Ride uphill with ease! To help you up the hills, a small motor powered by a removable battery is located on the wheel hub or the drive. E-bikes are a boon for the environment (there’s no excuse not to cycle to work!) and can also be used off-road in the mountains where mountain biking is not always easy. Méribel offers 3 special circuits that you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

  • La Truite : 7.5km with 300m of total ascent. Access from La Chaudanne at the foot of Tougnète

  • La Saulire : 15.8km with 650m of total ascent. Access from La Chaudanne at the foot of Tougnète

  • Courchevel-Méribel électrique : 20.5km with 930m of total ascent. Access from the Altiport car park

Which MTB pass should I choose?
