Le Roc de Fer in Méribel: an extraordinary atmosphere

If you fancy an adventure, take the Legends chairlift from the Chaudanne plateau (Méribel centre). You’re already off to a great start, as this has pull-down shields to keep you warm on the way up, and heated seats. Then take the blue Gélinotte piste to the Olympic Express chairlift.

Once up at the top (at 2,294 m), you'll have a magnificent 360° view over Méribel, the Belleville valley with its famous mountain pastures, and the Écrins massif. You'll see breath-taking peaks such as Pointe de la Masse, Cime Caron, Aiguille du Borgne, Mont Vallon and many more. We have set up a summit dedicated to memories, with a perfect photo spot to capture your experience. For those who want to take a peaceful break, a relaxation area with picnic tables and even a hammock awaits, ideal for unwinding before hitting the slopes again.

You'll be spellbound by the silence and peacefulness of this secluded location. If you are dreaming of wide open spaces, you won’t believe your eyes when you arrive at Roc de Fer! We’re sure you'll want to take plenty of photos and selfies.

The Roc de Fer, also renowned for its challenging skiing

From the summit, you'll have a wide choice of slopes of varying difficulty, so there's something for everyone. There are several options to choose from:

🔵 La piste bleue du Raffort

To get here, take the first part of the Roc de Fer blue run, then the Gélinotte run, which leads to this magnificent piste, renowned for its peace and quiet and scarcity of skiers. It really is a little gem of a run, winding through the forest and ending up in a hamlet of the same name. We suggest you do it at the end of the day to enjoy the changing light of late afternoon. However, depending on the time of season and snow conditions, it may not be possible to ski to the hamlet.

🔵 The Roc de Fer blue run, “the champions’ piste”

This legendary piste has plenty of history, having hosted the Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in 2015 and 2022, as well as the World Championships in 2023. Countless French and international ski champions have skied this run, which has a vertical drop of 844 m and is almost 2.5 km long. Although it gets off to a relatively gentle start with its first undulating section, it is feared for its changes of pace, its reverse-camber sections and its very steep final slope.

🔴 The Daguet red run

You'll be able to enjoy a 1,000 metre vertical drop. Yes, you've got that right, this downhill piste is especially long, and offers great skiing, some through forest sections, all well off the beaten track. You'll feel at one with nature, not least because the snowy fir trees and the gentle sounds of the river make this piste unique

⚫ La Face black run

This ski run, located close to the Roc de Fer piste, is fairly short (just under 2 km), but the first part is steep and testing. After that, you'll ski on gentler sections where you can give free rein to your imagination, choosing big curves or tight turns. How you ski it is up to you, but however you do it, enjoy it to the full!

This was the venue for the women's events at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.
