What is your job and what does it involve on a daily basis?

“I work on a detachable chairlift and operate it during opening hours. I’m responsible for ensuring the lift runs smoothly throughout the day.

My days start early. Before opening, I carry out all the mechanical checks. I inspect the entire lift line to make sure everything is in order and that all safety conditions are met.

The goal is simple: to welcome guests in the best possible conditions so they can fully enjoy their day in the valley.”

What has your career path been?

“I’ve been working in ski lift operations for around fifteen years. My career has developed progressively, on the ground.

I started as a lift operator at the Golf chairlift. Then I moved up to a station manager position. This year is my first season as an operator here at Dent du Burgin.

I completed all my training internally and obtained the CQP, the certification required to operate a detachable chairlift.”

How do you ensure skiers’ safety throughout the day?

“From the control cabin, I constantly monitor the operation of the lift. I have a control panel to oversee guests and an electrical cabinet that displays the cable speed as well as various technical parameters. Every morning, I also check each emergency stop button, one by one.

I can adjust the chairlift speed if necessary. For example, reducing the speed allows guests to disembark more comfortably. I also keep a close eye on wind speed using a sensor — this is essential for ensuring safety. Once a day, I go down to the engine room to check the motor temperature with a thermometer to prevent any overheating.

Throughout the day, I maintain the unloading area. I add snow when there isn’t enough or remove some if needed.

The goal is always the same: to make getting off the chairlift easier and to ensure a smooth and safe exit.”

What do you like most about this job?

“I really enjoy the mechanical and technical side of the role.

But I equally appreciate the connection with skiers. We are the link between them and the slopes.

I’m there to advise, support, and reassure them. There’s real meaning in this job. It’s important to me to contribute to the quality of our guests’ stay.”

What makes your days in Méribel so special?

“The setting plays a huge role. I ski to work and I’m among the first on the slopes in the morning. Sunrise and seas of clouds create truly special moments. In the evening, when I shut down the chairlift, the views are beautiful, with stunning sunsets.

And then there’s the contact with guests. I’m there to reassure them. I encourage skiers to come and see us — we’re approachable and here to answer their questions, offer advice, and support them.”

At Dent de Burgin, as across the entire Méribel ski area, the teams work every day to ensure your safety and comfort.
