Secret spots in the World's largest ski area
The great outdoors away from the crowds

Méribel is in full swing during the February half term holidays : family entertainments fill each day, it’s time to make new friends in ski school or at après-ski, while the men behind the scenes work tirelessly to offer you an exceptional ski area…

As well as unmissable pistes, viewpoints and routes, les 3 Vallées is packed with off-the-beaten-track runs where you can ski in tranquillity even when the holidays are in full swing. This pleasure is within the reach of everybody, as all levels of skier can find their own “private” piste. The following list is far from comprehensive.

Green run: le Belvédère at Courchevel Moriond
    Green run

On the far edge of the 3 Vallées ski area, the Courchevel Moriond sector blessed by its geography with maximum sunshine all season long! Wide open boulevards give way to beautiful forest itineraries, all on naturally rolling pistes. Here, make you way to the Belvédère piste, accessed via the lift of the same name, to discover all these joys in a form suitable for beginners !

How to get there from Méribel on the green and blue runs ?

    > Saulire Express's cabins 1 and 2
    > Go to Pas-du-Lac then switch to the Courchevel side via the blue Creux run
    > Go down Creux to the Roc Mugnier chairlift in Courchevel
    > You have arrived in Courchevel Moriond! Go down the blue run Arinondaz then Grange to Belvédère

Roc de Fer + Raffort to Méribel
    Blue run

The magic of les 3 Vallées is that early intermediate skiers can access summits they never dared dream of and complete long descents they never thought possible. For a taste of this magic, head to the summit of Roc de Fer (2,290m) for a breath-taking view (webcam here for a foretaste of what awaits you !). Next, take the blue run of the same name which offers you a sumptuous descent, then a second blue run, Raffort. Ending in the hamlet of the same name, this little-used, winding forest piste is an absolute gem.

How to get there from Méribel on the blues runs ?

    > Legends chairlift
    > Cherferie chairlift
    > Take the Choucas run

    Coraïa in Orelle
    Red run

When you pass from Val Thorens to Orelle, at the other extremity of the ski area, you enter the Maurienne valley. Which is magnificent, to say the very least ! Less frequented than other, more central areas, Orelle has preserved its wild beauty. It’s a paradise for fans of long and almost untouched slopes. This is especially true of Coraïa, the highest piste in les 3 Vallées which starts at the highest point in les 3 Vallées, at 3,230m above ski level. A well-earned pleasure…

    Lac noir at les Menuires
    Black run

Closely associated with the resort it overlooks, la Point de la Masse shouldn’t be missed when you are skiing in the Belleville valley or in les 3 Vallées. And for good reason; this area offers everything a skier could dream of : pistes for all levels, fun zones and legendary off-piste. Expert skiers will naturally want to launch themselves down Lac noir, a black run offering all the sensations of skiing in the high mountains.

    Another well hidden place
    The Trait d'Union shelter

At this time of the year, to make the most of the tranquillity of the mountains, take a break at the Refuge du Trait d’Union atSaint-Martin-de-Belleville. Host Viviane welcomes her guests in her hidden paradise in the heart of the forest for lunch, dinner or an overnight stay … or even for a relaxing session in the hot tub with a view over the valley! A chance to get away from it all … The refuge is accessible on skis along a short off-piste section.
