Les Allues: the charm of a historic village
Situated at altitudes between 1,100 and 1,400 metres, Les Allues and its hamlets arethe historic birthplace of Méribel. This was where the great adventure of starting a resort began in 1938, inspired by Scotsman Peter Lindsay. Les Allues and its neighbouring hamlets - Le Raffort, Le Cruet, Vanthier, Chandon, Nantgerel, La Gittaz and Le Plantin - retain all the charm of traditional mountain villages.
Narrow streets, renovated farmhouses and typical Savoyard chapels are part of an authentic setting. The atmosphere is typically rural and peaceful, far from the hustle and bustle of the main lift hubs. It's the ideal area if you appreciate Alpine architecture, local heritage and tranquillity. The origin of Méribel’s name, ‘mirare bellum’ (the point with the beautiful view), takes on its full meaning here.
On the practical side, the Olympe gondola lift links Les Allues to La Chaudanne in just a few minutes. It's even possible to ski back down to the village when snow conditions allow. Regular buses also run throughout the day and evening.
Les Allues appeals to visitors who wish to combine skiing, culture and authenticity. It's a great place to recharge your batteries after an active day on the mountain.
